McDonogh No. 15 Art Students • Mr. Jamal London, Teacher |

With the purpose of encouraging our local students to express themselves through the medium of art, this year's theme was Mardi Gras Indians. Each student was challenged to design a Mardi Gras Indian headdress on canvas using acrylic paints and various markers. The 5th - 8th grade students didn't disappoint! Their beautiful art was displayed at our local Mardi Gras Indian museum and they were treated to an interview with Mardi Gras Indian Chief Shaka Zulu, and a good meal. Plus they were able to view the elaborately beaded costumes sewn by hand, and designed by Chief Zulu and other members of his tribe.
